The next Union Meeting will take place on Tuesday, February 21, 2012 at 7:00 pm.  This meeting will be held at the St. George Romanian Cultural Center in Southfield.

 

Congratulations to Eric and Betty Jackson on the December 1, 2011 birth of Flynn.  Very proud grandpa is 636 member Randy Jackson, Betty’s dad is Wayne Phelps of Local #704.  Congratulations also to Nathan and Morgan Fisher on the December 29th. birth of Harlow Monroe.  Congratulations also to Eric and Danielle Stevens on the January 6th. birth of son Kallen Michael.  Proud great grandpa is Herb Klein, grandpa Duane Klein, Uncle Marty and great uncles Steve Klein and Rich Stieber, all local members of 636.

 

Quick and speedy recoveries are wished to the sick and injured member, especially Retiree Sam Volpe who is in Florida recuperating from recent knee surgery.

 

Heartfelt condolences are extended to Robert Schroder on the January 26th. passing of his mom Judy.  Condolences also to the family of Retiree Mark Jenuwine who passed away January 28th.   Mark has been a member for 47 years.

Condolences to Robert O'Connor on the January 29th. passing of his dad, Robert Jackson.

The 2011 Dues Tax Information will be available on the February Mailing of the BeneSys monthly status report.  Please DO NOT call the Union Office for your 2011 hours.

 

Attention all dues paying members:  The UA has increased the per capita tax as of January 2012. If you have paid in advance, you will owe an additional $2.00 for every month that you have paid for 2012.

 

 The window dues will be as follows for all dues paying members:

 

Journeyman:  $26.00 per month;  $78.00 per quarter; $312.00 per year

 

Journeyman on Direct Dues:  $39.00 per month; $117.00 per quarter; $468.00 per year.

 

Retirees not 65 as of December 31, 2011: $26.00 per month; $78.00 per quarter; $312.00 per year

 

All other Retirees dues will remain the same as before. 

 

Please pay your dues on time!  Suspensions occur at such time that you are 90 days in arrears.  All back dues and payment of $50.00 reinstatement fee is required for those members who are suspended.  Members who are in arrears for dues for a period of six months shall stand expelled, and must pay all money that he legally owes to the expelling Local Union and pay a new initiation fee to the Local Union in which he will be re-instated.

 

Tube Bending Class:  The Marathon Oil Refinery Project will be needing numerous mechanics to install miles of control tubing.  A Tube Bending Class will be offered at the Training Center to teach or refresh those members who would like to take advantage of these job opportunities.  For more information contact Larry Giroux at the Training Center – 248-585-0636.

 

The 636 Apprentice Application process has ended.  The process may re-open late this year.

 

Attention Hockey Players:  Anyone interested in playing on the Pipefitters Local 636 Hockey Team, please contact Lance Pesci at 248-939-3421 or 248-476-0019.  Practices will begin on Sundays in late February at the Hazel Park Ice Arena.  The U.A. Hockey Tournament will be played May 4, 5 and 6 in Hamilton Ontario.  You will need a passport or an enhanced driver’s license to travel to Canada.  It takes about 3 months for a passport and about 6 weeks for an enhanced license.

 

Financial Planning:  Call Jason May at Morgan Stanley 248-258-1750 for assistance and consultation relating to your Defined Contribution Investments.  He will help with a total financial plan if requested.  Services are paid for by the Defined Contribution Fund.

 

Recovery Support Group: Pipedreamers, a Peer Support Recovery group for ongoing recovery from substance abuse and addiction meets the first and third Thursday of each month at 6pm at the office of “Work Life Strategies” 26789 Woodward Avenue, Suite 3105, Huntington Woods 48070.  Call 248-545-8301 for details or any questions you may have.

 

Also, a Relations/Divorce Support Group will now be meeting on the second and fourth Thursday of the month at 6pm.

 

Worker Assistance ProgramWork Life Strategies, LLC are available to our members and their families to provide personal counseling services and when needed, referral to other professionals.  Call 248-545-8301 to talk to a counselor for issues relating to grief, alcohol and or drug addiction, bankruptcy, financial management, marital, depression, legal and family counseling.  Consultations with Work Life Strategies are a service paid for by the Insurance Fund.  Referrals to outside professionals, if needed, will be paid for according to the current health care plan benefits. 

 

Retirees Organization:  The next meeting will be held on Thursday, February 16, 2012 at 11:30am. Wyandotte Mental Health Professional Michael Brock whose private practice provides counseling services, court-ordered evaluation and therapy and driver’s license evaluations will be speaking. The meeting will be held at the Elks club located at 2401 E. Fourth St. in Royal Oak (south of 11 Mile Rd. and west of I-75 service drive – next to Belle Tire. We invite all UA retirees and their spouses along with our many widows to join us at our next meeting.  Dues are $12.00 per year – widow’s dues are gratis.  A deli lunch is available for $6.00.
