The next membership meeting will be held on Tuesday, August 19, 2008 and will convene at 7:00 pm after the polls close. The meeting and voting will take place at the St. George Romanian Cultural Center.
The Special Election for the offices of President (1), Executive Board (1) and Business Agent (1) will take place on Tuesday, August 19, 2008 from 11am until 7:00 pm. In case of a tie vote developing for any of the offices, another election for that office shall take place from 2:00pm to 7:00 pm immediately prior to the next regularly scheduled meeting following the election.

A comfortable recovery is wished to Retiree Art Rybinski who has lung cancer and will be starting treatment next week. He would like to hear from his friends.

Congratulations to Steve and Tracy Lowe on the July 2nd. birth of their third child, Julia Summer who weighed 7pds. 9oz. Julia joins her big brothers, Austin and Cameron. Congratulations also to Brad and Jennifer Patterson on the July 9th. birth of their first child, Jayden Rhiannon who weighed 8ps. 8ozs.
Condolences to Linda Garrow and Mario Garcia on the recent passing of their father, Mario Garcia Sr. He was the father-in-law of Ray. Condolences are also extended to the family of Retiree Charles Aeck who passed away July 19th. Brother Ken is also a Local 636 member.

Softball News: The Softball Team will be playing their next game on Monday, July 28th. against the Operators at 8:30/9:40 diamond #4. Monday August 4th.against Sheet Metal at 7:20/8:30 diamond #8. Monday August 11th. against the Carpenters at 7:20/8:30 diamond #5. The games are played at Liberty Park located on Mound Rd. just north of 14 Mile Rd. in Sterling Heights. Come out and cheer on the boys of summer!
The Annual Pipefitters Picnic will be held on Saturday, August 2nd. from 11am to 5pm at Willow Metro Park in the Washago Pond Picnic Area in New Boston, I-275 Exit 11A (S. Huron Rd.) Volunteers are needed to help out in all areas so please if you can volunteer call Steve Spurlock at the Union Hall or Lance Pesci at 248-476-0019.
Retirees Organization: Our next meeting will be held on Thursday, August 21st. at the Elks Club located at 2401 E. Fourth St. in Royal Oak (south of 11 Mile Rd and west of I-75 service drive – next to Belle Tire. All of our meetings convene at 11:30 am and we meet on the third Thursday of each month (except in December). We invite all UA retirees and their spouses along with our many widows to join us. Dues are $12.00 per year – widow’s dues are gratis and we have a deli lunch for $6.00. C. J. Harrison of Work Life Strategies LLC spoke at our last meeting and was very imformative. Ross Bates said this years UA retirees Golf outing was well attended. We had 54 golfers with some from Lansing and Kalamazoo. Stop in and see what our club is all about and what it has to offer.
BC/BS New cards: BCBSM is redesigning its member ID cards to meet Blue Cross and Blue Shield Association mandates. The purpose of the redesign is to give all Blues ID cards a similar look and feel and to make them easier to use. The Blues will begin issuing the redesigned cards in phases, beginning this month, with all members receiving a new card by January 1. 2001. Some individual group members and individual business subscribers may receive redesigned cards this month as well.
Members are reminded to call the Union Hall with any change of address or telephone number.
Applications for the Pipefitters Apprenticeship Program will new be accepted every Tuesday between 4pm and 6pm at the Training Center.
