Pipefitter Local 636 would like to extend our deepest sympathy to the family of Retiree Brother Tom Stempien whose daughter Loren Stempien passed away on December 25, 2017, to Retiree Brother Don Munson whose wife Elizabeth Munson passed away January 1, 2018, also to the family of Brother Timothy Olsen whose Father Retiree Brother George Olsen passed away on December 21, 2017. Our condolence also go out to Brother Dave Dobis whose mother Lorraine passed away on December 17, 2017, to The Larkin Family on the passing of Maureen Lentz, Maureen passed away on December 20, 2017 and was the niece of Retiree Brother James Larkin, sister of Brother Charles and Brother John Larkin, and cousin of Brother Hugh Larkin and Mason Larkin. Also to the family of Brother Keith Bouley who passed away on December 4, 2017, the family of Brother James Franzen who passed away on November 11, 2017, the family of Brother Albert Thomas who passed away December 15, 2017, and to the family of Brother Dave Palfrey who passed away on January 5, 2018, and to the family of Brother Peter Cropper whose wife Phyllis Cropper passed away on December 11, 2017.

All active members of Pipefitters 636 should have received by mail a New Insurance Card, we have changed our RX coverage carrier from Envision to Magellan so there have been new cards issued to all active members. If you haven’t received you card yet please contact Benesys at 248-641-4936. There has been no chance to the Retiree’s Insurance coverage.

2018 “Window” Union Dues: Local 636 Union Dues structure will be increasing per The United Association Constitution effective January 1, 2018 ALL members who have NOT reached 65yrs of age your “Window” Dues will increase from $29.00 a month to $31.00 a month. And for all members 65yrs. and OLDER your “Window” Dues will be $24.00 a month. If you have any questions regarding this matter feel free to contact the Hall @ (248) 538-6636.

The Local 636 Annual Picnic was held on Saturday, August 26th. We would like to thank the following for making this year’s picnic a success: a very special thank you to Tim and Maria Bryant and Steve Gilligan for their help manning the barbeques all day, Lori and Frank Grammatico for keeping the kids busy with the games, Ralph Kurtzhals Farms for the generous donation of the corn that was fresh picking that morning by Bill Kurtzhals Sr and Bill Kurtzhals Jr. Also to Lance Pesci and his crew for helping with setting up and cleaning afterwards.

Hats and shirts will be passed out starting at 7am we mobilize by 8:30 parade starts at 9am. The Pipefitters extend our deepest condolences to the families of Brother Patrick Cullen on the passing of his sister Cathrine Colvin who passed away on August 6, 2017. Cathrine was also the daughter of Life Member Retiree Brother William Cullen. And to the family of Brother Wesley Farr on the passing of his Father Retiree Brother Stanley Farr who passed away on August 11, 2017. Also to the family of Brother Bernard Schafer whos wife Patricia Schafer passed away on August 13, 2017. Frank Grammatico would like to thank the golfers who came out for the 11th U.A. Retiree’s Golf Outing on the 23rd of June. The day did not look good in the beginning, but after an hour and a half the skies cleared up, we got underway and we even finished. The next Union Meeting will be A Special Meeting held on November 6, 2018 at the St. George Romanian Cultural Center at 18405 West 9 Mile Rd. Southfield MI 48075. Meeting starts at 7:00pm. This meeting is for the purpose of Nominations for Officers.

 

To be eligible to be nominated for officer, the UA Constitution, Section 121 states:

“No member shall be eligible to be nominated for officer in any Local Union unless he shall be a Journeyman member and shall have been a member of the United Association and the Local Union in good standing for at least a period of two years immediately prior to the election. Any Journeyman member who owes or has paid a reinstatement fee within a period of two years immediately prior to the date of the election shall not be eligible to be nominated for office in any Local Union.”

 

Those offices up for nomination are: Business Manager, Secretary-Treasurer/Assistant Business Manager, Five (5) Business Agents, President, Vice-President, Executive Board of four (4), Recording Secretary, Assistant Recording Secretary, Examining Board of three (3), Inside Sentry, Three (3) Financial Trustees, and twenty-four (24) Delegates to the Michigan Pipe Trades conventions.

 

For those members who will be unable to attend November Nominations Meeting and wish to accept a nomination, they may send a letter addressed to the Union Hall, Attn: Bill Helwig Pipefitters Local 636 President, stating the reason for not being able to attend the nomination meeting and the specific officer for which you wish to accept nomination for. The letter needs to be signed, dated, and must include your UA card number.

 

A special meeting for the purpose of Pipefitters Local 636 officers Election will be held on December 4, 2018. Polls will be open from 11:00am through 7:00pm at St. George Romanian Orthodox Cathedral of Greater Detroit located at 18405 W. Nine Mile Rd. Southfield MI 48075. The results to be announced immediately after the polls close and the ballots are counted.

 

To be eligible to vote in any Local Union election Section 124 of the UA Constitution reads: “No member shall vote at any election of any description unless he has been a member in good standing in the Local Union where the vote is being taken for a period of one (1) year immediately prior to the date of the election. Any member who owes or has paid a reinstatement fee within a period of one (1) year prior to the date of the election shall not be eligible to vote in any Local Union election.”

 

In case of a tie vote developing for any of the offices, another election for that office shall take place from 2:00 PM- 7:00 PM immediately prior to the next regularly scheduled meeting. Which is December 18, 2018.

 

Before the November 20, 2018 Regular Union Meeting, our Financial Advisor Jason May will be giving a presentation centered on your Defined Contribution Pension decisions. The presentation will start promptly at 6:00 PM followed by the Regular Union Meeting at 7:00 PM.

Retirees Organization:

The next meeting will be held on Thursday November 15, 2018 at 11:30 am at the Elks club located at 2401 E. Fourth St. in Royal Oak (south of 11 Mile Rd. and west of I-75 service drive – next to Belle Tire). The guest speaker will be Michael Bullis, Retirement Specialist at Raymond James. He will talk about current market trends and answer questions about the status of retirement funds. .  We invite all UA retirees and their spouses along with our widows to join us at our next meeting.  Dues are $12.00 per year, widow’s dues are zero.  A deli lunch is available for $6.00.
